Lesson 1 — What is a Perfect Progressive Tense?
A Perfect Progressive tense combines two ideas:
- Perfect: connects an action with a reference time.
- Progressive: shows that the action has been continuing.
Perfect Progressive = have/has/had/will have + been + verb-ing
Example: Ravi has been studying for two hours.

Lesson 3 — Present Perfect Progressive
Subject + has/have + been + V-ing
Use it for an action that started in the past and is still continuing, especially when the duration is important.
Ravi has been practising cricket for three hours.
Ananya has been preparing for the examination since Monday.
Karthik has been repairing his bicycle since morning.
Meena and Priya have been discussing the project for an hour.
Signal: for = கால அளவு; since = தொடங்கிய நேரம்/நாள்.

Use it for an action that continued for some time before another past event or past point.
Example: When Priya reached the library, Arun had been waiting for thirty minutes.
The waiting began earlier and continued until the past event “Priya reached”.

Remember: Do not write had been studied for an ongoing action. Write had been studying.
Lesson 7 — Future Perfect Progressive
Subject + will have been + V-ing
Use it to say that an action will have continued for a certain period up to a future time.
By 6 p.m., Ravi will have been studying for four hours.
By next June, Priya will have been teaching at the school for ten years.
By tomorrow morning, Karthik will have been travelling for twelve hours.
By the end of the month, Ananya will have been training for six weeks.
