📘 Lesson 1 — What is a Tense?

A tense tells us when an action happens: in the present, past or future.

Tense	Basic idea	Example	Tamil idea
Simple Present	habit, fact, routine	Ravi plays cricket.	வழக்கம் / உண்மை
Simple Past	completed past action	Ravi played cricket yesterday.	கடந்த செயல்

நினைவில் கொள்: Present = இப்போது/வழக்கம்; Past = ஏற்கனவே நடந்தது; Future = இனி நடக்கப் போவது.

📗 Lesson 2 — Simple Present Tense

Form

I / We / You / They + V1

He / She / It + V1 + s / es

Examples:

Priya reads every morning.

Arun plays chess on Sundays.

They visit their grandparents every month.

Uses

Habit: Meena drinks milk every morning.
Routine: Karthik goes to school at 8 a.m.
General truth: The sun rises in the east.
Fact: Chennai has many educational institutions.
Timetables: The train leaves at 6 p.m.

📗 Lesson 3 — Simple Present: Negative & Questions

Plural/I/You	do + V1	Do they play football?

Exam shortcut: After do/does, use the base verb (V1). ❌ Does Ravi plays? → ✅ Does Ravi play?

📕 Lesson 4 — Simple Past Tense

Form

Subject + V2

Ravi visited Madurai last year.

Priya went to the library yesterday.

Regular verbs often take -ed; irregular verbs change form: go → went, see → saw, write → wrote.

Uses

Completed action: Karthik finished the work.
Past event: India won the match.
Past habit: Arun walked to school every day.
Sequence of past actions: Meena opened the door and entered.

Form with will

Subject + will + V1

Common uses

Future action: Priya will visit Delhi next week.
Prediction: It will rain tonight.
Instant decision: I will help you.
Promise: Karthik will call you.
